A Eucumbene trip report from EAC member "Wobby" Buchanan who fished Braemar Bay for a week in November

5 Anglers. Total of 50 fish. 5 Browns and the rest Rainbows. Three good Browns of 7lb, 6.8lb and 6.4lb. Two on worm, the other on Power Bait.

In total 24 fish on worms, 18 on Power Bait, 4 on mudeye, 3 on fly, 1 on grub, and none on Yabbie.

Fly fishing was hindered by windy conditions, and many small rainbows returned to the lake. Some rainbows in very poor condition. Locals say mudeye only just starting and best time is in February.

Lake filling while we were there rising about 4 inches. Highest I can recall in 17 years. Best lightening display I have ever seen over a 10 hour period.

Dilemma. Most trout taken were full of mudeyes, and yet over many years we have never caught one on a yabby. Have tried into the night, and early mornings without success, though have often removed live yabby from the stomach of trout. Tried on the bottom, and under a float. Must be a trick I'm not aware of!

Cheers

Wobby
